The Ohio Slate is a weekly look at development in Ohio’s gaming industry – including betting angles – as the state prepares to launch legal sportsbooks on Jan. 1, 2023.

Mobile sportsbooks MaximBet, Prophet Exchange, and Betway have submitted applications for 2nd Mobile Management Services Provider licenses, according to the Ohio Casino Control Commission’s most recent updated list of applicants posted on Aug. 17.

MaximBet (CG Ohio LLC) is partnering with JACK Cleveland Casino, which has PlayUp Interactive listed as its 1st MMSP. Prophet Exchange (Stake Trade Inc.) is partnering with the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, who have Fanatics as their 1st MMSP. Betway (Digital Gaming Corporation) is partnering with Belterra Park, which has FanDuel as its 1st MMSP.

By submitting an application during the second application installment window designated for 2nd MMSPs, MaximBet, Prophet Exchange, and Betway met the deadline to be considered for approval to operate on the universal launch date, Jan. 1. 2023. The second application installment window closed on Aug. 15.

Rush Street Interactive (BetRivers) represents the only other mobile sportsbook that has applied for a 2nd MMSP, according to the list of applicants posted Aug. 12. Rush Street Interactive is partnering with Hollywood Casino Columbus, which has Barstool Sportsbook as its 1st MMSP.

The compliance document window closes on Nov. 2, which represents the next deadline on the commission’s Sports Gaming Implementation Timeline. The date also represents the application deadline for anyone looking to be approved for work as a sports gaming employee by the universal start date.

Buckeyes’ win total listed at 11 to 11.5

Ohio State’s football team is ranked No. 2 in preseason rankings behind Alabama heading into an early season marquee matchup with No. 5 Notre Dame in prime time on Sept. 3.

The Buckeyes enter the game against the Fighting Irish with sportsbooks projecting them to post double-digit wins this fall and to be in line to win the Big Ten title and contend for the national championship.

BetRivers has set the over/under for regular season wins at 11.5 for Ohio State, while FanDuel and Caesars have the o/u at 11. At BetRivers, an over bet on the Buckeyes to get to 12 wins costs $100 to win $145 (+145), while an under bet is set at -186. At Caesars, a bettor has to place $140 to win $100 on the Buckeyes winning more than 11 games (-140), while an under wager is +110.

In the meantime, FanDuel lists the Buckeyes as 15.5-point favorites over the Fighting Irish less than two weeks away from their season opener.

Barstool Sportsbook promotion

Hollywood Casino Columbus has begun posting on its website a promo for the Barstool Sportsbook that will be built in the largest of the four Penn National Gaming casinos/racinos located in Ohio. The house ad reads Hollywood + Barstool Sportsbook/Taking Bets In January. The websites for Hollywood Toledo, Hollywood Dayton Raceway, and Hollywood Mahoning Valley don’t have a similar house ad promoting a sportsbook where patrons will be able to place a sports wager beginning in January.
