We must mention that in other states, like New York and New Jersey, brands have begun reducing some of their bonus awards, so these are not as enticing as the pre-registration offers, but there are plenty of great welcome offers out there.

Using a Ohio sportsbook promo code

The majority of new-user sportsbook rewards can only be activated by entering a promo code (bonus code) during registration. Some sportsbooks require no code at all, whereas others will leave players high and dry if they forget to enter their exclusive code.

Rather than being sorry, always be safe and make sure to look for a promo code before creating your account or making an initial deposit. Where do you look? Right here!

OHBets will always have the promo codes that yield the biggest bonuses in the state of Ohio for every legal online sportsbook.

So if you’re signing up, check here first and we’ll make sure you can secure the best offers. When a code is required, the field to enter it is typically found towards the bottom of the registration page or on the cashier page during deposit.

If the code is active and currently working, it’ll usually get marked to showcase this once entered successfully.

Whether it is a green checkmark or a thumbs-up, make sure your code is approved before taking any further steps. Our sportsbook review pages will show you exactly what it should look like once accepted. Essentially the same thing as using a coupon code for an online purchase, promo codes give users the opportunity to make the most of their money.

If you’re planning on placing bets with legal online sportsbooks, you’re going to want to use an Ohio sportsbook bonus code.

While promo codes will vary from book to book and state to state, we’ve got you covered here at OHBets.

Who is eligible for Ohio sports betting bonuses?

Eligibility for most sports betting bonuses will ultimately depend on the status of the user’s account. If you’ve never signed up for a legal Ohio sportsbook before, you’re going to be eligible for just about every bonus under the sun.

If you already have existing accounts from previous states, you might be out of luck, as some promotions specifically cater to new users only.

Some brands, however, like BetMGM Ohio and Caesars Sportsbook in Ohio, do allow users to create a new account for each individual state in which the app operates – giving new life to those who’ve already used their promotion in the past.

Age, identity verification, location – OH bonus requirements

Regardless of a player’s account status, there are a few requirements that every user will need to pass in order to successfully create an account and receive any bonuses in Ohio:

  • Age: In order to legally place any sports wagers in Ohio, players must be at least 21 years or older. No exceptions.
  • Location: Similar to the above, there are no exceptions when it comes to location. All players must be located within Ohio state lines in order to successfully place any legal wagers in Ohio.
Players can typically sign up, deposit, and withdraw money from outside of the state they are wagering in. But in order to lock in any bets, they’ll have to pass the required location checks. Desktop players can download geolocation software in order to confirm their location, while Ohio mobile sportsbook users will automatically have access to this feature through their smartphone’s GPS.
  • Identity Verification: Nearly every US state that offers online sports betting will require identity verification for all new users. Personal information such as your phone number, home address, birth date, and the last four digits of your Social Security Number will almost always be necessary in order to sign up and take advantage of any bonuses or promo codes. The sportsbooks need to confirm that you are who you say you are, and nothing else. Any and all information provided to legalized sportsbooks in Ohio is protected by the Ohio Casino Control Commission. There is absolutely no need to be hesitant when forking over any personal details.

If you can meet the above criteria then you are eligible to place bets on sports in the state of Ohio. If you can bet in Ohio, you can claim sports betting bonuses in Ohio.

How can Ohio sportsbooks offer these big bonuses, anyway?

New customers who are on the fence about online gambling may look at some of the incredible welcome bonus offers and ask themselves, “what’s the catch?”

There is no catch! Simply put, sportsbooks want you as their customer and are willing to give up some pretty hefty rewards in order to make it happen. Now, this might spark the question of how/why can sportsbooks afford to give away so much bonus money? Especially when their entire operation is centered around bringing in money.

Again, it’s very simple. All welcome bonuses and signup promos come with a set of terms and conditions. Usually, they are restricting any sort of withdrawal until wagering requirements are met.

Whether it be to chase their losses or continue rolling over their winnings, the goal behind these bonuses is to get players to their sportsbook.

We mentioned that due to local Ohio sports betting laws there will be plenty of competition in the state. Each sportsbook will be offering these door prizes to get you in their doors.

Think of this as a marketing effort. The ultimate endgame for all sportsbooks that offer bonuses is to get new players in the door, keep current/active players on their app or website, and entice previous players to come back after they might’ve taken some time off or found a better option elsewhere.

Both customer acquisition and market share are extremely important to the sportsbooks, often leading to the customer having the upper hand. You’re going to want to take advantage of this.

Types of Ohio sportsbook bonuses and promos

Nearly every state that has rolled out legalized sports betting thus far has featured a multitude of different promotions.

These offers can vary from state to state and sportsbook to sportsbook, making it extremely important to always shop around and read the terms and conditions located within the fine print.

In Ohio, players enjoy generally the same rewards previously offered in other legalized states. Among others, these bonuses include:

  • bonus bets
  • deposit matches
  • bet insurance
  • friend referrals

Below, we detail each and every one of the bonus offers that are being offered in Ohio.

No-deposit bonuses

The first and probably best promotional offer for new users is the rare no-deposit bonus. With as self-explanatory of a name as humanly possible, no-deposit bonuses reward users before they even make that initial deposit.

This sort of offer is most often seen when a new state launches with legal sportsbooks. For example, with Caesars Sportsbook’s New York launch, they funded all new accounts with $300 in site credit without requiring a single deposit.

No-deposit bonuses usually require some sort of rollover in order to keep that newly-acquired customer’s action on the book. After all, they can’t just give you cash and let you walk away without using it. It may take a few plays to finally clear the wagering requirement, but it is on the house after all. The worst-case scenario is you have a good time!

Always be sure to check the terms and have an idea of what needs to be done in order to clear that no-deposit bonus since you won’t be able to immediately withdraw it. It is worth noting that no-deposit bonuses, (bonus bets) will expire if not used after a certain period of time.

Also, player rewards typically last anywhere from 7 days to 30 days. Be sure to use them in a timely manner and keep tabs on when they go bad. The last thing you want is to let bonus money slip through your fingertips.

Lastly, any bettors who turn their no-deposit bonus into something bigger will need to make a first-time deposit in order to withdraw any of their existing funds. But don’t fret, that’s something to worry about only after winning some bets.

Bonus bets

A bonus bet is the most common form of sportsbook reward. Sometimes it is given out as the ‘no-deposit bonus’ listed above.

Bonus bets can be obtained in a number of ways, from betting on a specific game or event for a promotion, to receiving one as a sign-up bonus, to randomly having one dropped into your account if the sportsbook was feeling generous that day.

Unlike site credit, bonus bets generally only return the winnings to the player, not the stake. For example, if a player put $50 in site credit on a +100 odds wager and won, they would get back their $50 stake plus $50 in winnings, totaling $100 in cash.

If the same player took the same bet using a $50 bonus bet, they would only get back a total of $50 in cash after the bet settled as a win – the profit. Best used for parlays and futures with higher odds, a bonus bet’s only major drawback is that you lose the stake regardless of the bet’s outcome.

As briefly touched upon above, all sportsbook rewards and bonuses will carry some sort of expiration date following issuance. This window can range anywhere from 7 to 30 days, so always be aware of this and don’t waste them!

First bet offers

First bet offers are just one of the many ways that new users can obtain some of those aforementioned bonus bets.

Advertised by most notable online sportsbooks, a first bet opportunity is exactly what its name describes. Upon signing up for a new account, players can place a wager of any amount, in cash, up to the promotion’s cap. Some of the bigger brand names, such as BetMGM, offer users a first bet offer up to $1000.

Others typically offer anywhere from $250 to $750. In the event that the new user’s first wager loses, their stake will be fully reimbursed in the form of bonus bets, depending on the sportsbook. For example, if a player lost $1000 on their first wager, BetMGM would reimburse the player with bonus bets in increments of 20%. This means that $1000 cash would be returned as five separate $200 bonus bets. (Bonus bets expire in seven days. One new customer offer only. Additional terms and conditions apply.)

Every book is different, making it extremely important to read the terms and know what you are dealing with in the event that your first bet loses.

Generally speaking, all first bet offers will reimburse the player in some form, but that form is fully up to the sportsbook to decide.

Deposit matches

dollars

Bonus bets are great in their own right, but nothing will ever top cold, hard cash. Deposit matches typically match your cash deposit up to a certain percentage (often 100%).

Your deposit is matched in the form of site credit, which is basically just as good as the real thing. Any wagers won using site credit immediately turn into cash once settled. That’s including the original stake – making deposit matches one of the most sought-after forms of all sportsbook rewards.

For example, Rush Street Interactive’s (RSI) BetRivers Sportsbook offers one of the strongest new-user deposit match bonuses in the industry: a 100% deposit match up to $250 with just a 1x rollover requirement.

Players who take advantage and deposit $250 will get to play with a $500 bankroll for half the cost. This is giving the player a seemingly greater edge than the house, for once.

Not every book is as generous as iRush’s platforms. So be sure to check out the wagering requirements before forking over any funds.

As always, there is usually an expiration date on any site credit or bonuses acquired through a deposit match. Make sure to use them as soon as possible.

First bet matches

Some sportsbooks will offer new users the chance to have their first wager matched. The match is usually paid out in bonus bets, but can vary depending on where it is being offered.

Once the initial wager is placed and settled, the sportsbook will match the bet’s stake up to 100%. Those are usually capped at a specific amount. Unlike first bet insurance, a first bet match guarantees a reward for the player, win or lose.

First bet insurance requires the player to lose their own cash in order to get anything back. This is making a first bet match the stronger offer of the two.

Discounted odds

Though not usually offered as a new user promotion, many sportsbooks will offer their current users discounted odds, or ‘juice’.

With common odds ranging anywhere from -110 to -125 on most books, the ability to place wagers at -105 or +100 is a major advantage to the player. Anytime a book offers discounted vigorish, be sure to jump on it!

VIP and customer loyalty programs

In a booming, crowded market, customer loyalty is extremely important to most, if not all sportsbooks. Loyalty programs give back to the player as they place wagers with the book.

They are often converting each dollar spent into some sort of points-based system that players can exchange for various rewards. These rewards can include bonus bets, cash, hotel comps, dining credits, and much more.

Customer loyalty programs typically have different tiers that players can achieve by playing more games and placing more bets.

As players move up in the ranks, they gain more incentives and opportunities. The higher you go, the better the rewards get. Sportsbooks want to treat their best customers like royalty, so take advantage when available.

The edges aren’t typically very big when betting on sports. If you find a sportsbook rewards program that will pay constant, predictable value – it’s worth a lot.

Friend referral

As legalized sports betting slowly but surely makes its way around the United States, bettors of all sorts are going to start to reconsider how and where they place their action.

Have a friend in Ohio that’s been forced to use a mediocre offshore website for the past couple of years? Refer them to a legal sportsbook and both of you will instantly reap the rewards.

Refer-a-friend bonuses are offered by nearly every sportsbook in existence, and there are plenty of benefits to be had. Whether the reward is a bonus bet, site credit, or cash, sportsbooks are actually paying YOU to speak about their product and get your buddies on board.

Typically ranging anywhere from $50-$250, refer-a-friend bonuses can add up fast. Most books will allow up to three friend referrals, while others like FanDuel can go as high as ten.

Most refer-a-friend bonuses will require the new player to make a small deposit and place a wager of some sort. Always keep that in mind when delivering your spiel to that on-the-fence friend.

Always read the fine print for Ohio sportsbook bonuses

If there is one thing to take away from this page, it is to always read the fine print. Online sportsbook promotions can often be very confusing – we get it!

Even for the most experienced bettors, issues can arise and leave them wondering what went wrong if the terms weren’t read. Before you take on any sports betting bonus in Ohio, be sure to read the full terms to know what you’re getting in to.

There’s a lot of value out there, and the terms and conditions will help you figure out the best way to soak it in.

Money still locked up? Bonus bet gone from your account? There’s most likely a reason as to why this occurred. In order to prevent any technical issues, always know what you are dealing with.

You should follow along with any rules, regulations, guidelines, and/or timelines, and it should be smooth sailing from there. 21+ and present in OH. Gambling Problem? Call 1-800-GAMBLER
