Ohio’s 11 casinos and racinos had their best August ever with $196 million in gambling revenue for the month, topping the previous record of $194.2 million set in August 2021, according to Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) and Ohio Lottery Commission reports. Nevertheless, the revenue for last month was down from the $206.7 million for July 2022.

Gambling revenue is the money that casinos and racinos retain after paying out winnings, but before state taxes and fees are taken into account.

The state’s four casinos brought in a combined total of $84.2 million in August, compared to $82.4 million in August 2021, according to OCCC reports. Hollywood Casino Columbus took in more revenue in August 2022 ($22.2 million) than it did in August 2021 ($21.1 million), as did Hard Rock Cincinnati ($21.1 million vs. $19.9 million).  JACK Cleveland Casino ($21.8 million) and Hollywood Casino Toledo ($19 million) brought in roughly the same amount in revenue as they did in August 2021.

The seven racinos accounted for $111.7 million in revenue in August 2022, compared to $111.8 million in August 2021, according to Ohio Lottery Commission reports. Miami Valley Gaming brought in $19 million last month, which was an improvement from the $17.9 million in August 2021. MGM Northfield Park tallied $24.2 million in revenue last month, improving on $23.2 million in revenue for August 2021.

However, Belterra Park brought in $7.7 million in August 2022, which was less than the $8.1 million in revenue for August 2021, while JACK Thistledown Racino tallied $15.7 million for August 2022, which was also off from the $17 million in August 2021.

Hollywood Mahoning Valley ($13 million), Hollywood Dayton Racino ($12.1 million), and Eldorado Scioto Downs Racino ($19.7 million) tallied roughly the same revenue as they did in August 2021.
