Hard Rock Sportsbook is already making moves in preparation for the long-awaited launch of sports betting in Ohio.
The online and mobile sportsbook is rewarding future Ohio bettors who register early for the Hard Rock app with up to $500 in bonus bets. Hard Rock Sportsbook has launched the promotion with the branding “#FomoPromOH.”
Ohio Casino Control Commission Executive Director Matt Schuler announced on June 1 that the universal launch date for sports betting in the state will be Jan. 1, 2023.
That day will mark the culmination of a long process to get the vertical up and running, coming just over a year after Gov. Mike DeWine signed HB 29 on Dec. 22, 2021, legalizing sports betting in Ohio.
Applications rolling in
The commission announced last Friday that it had received the first sports betting license applications. BetMGM, which has market access through the MGM Northfield Park racino, applied for mobile management services provider and management services provider licenses on June 15.
PointsBet Ohio, which has market access through a current deal with Penn National Gaming, applied for a mobile management services provider application on June 16.
Hard Rock, which has market access through Hard Rock Casino Cincinnati, had not submitted a sports betting application as of Friday. The commission plans to release the latest list of sports betting license applicants every Friday.

Future bettors located in the Buckeye State who download the Hard Rock Sportsbook app and create a verified account will receive the bonus bet money in their account once Hard Rock launches the app in Ohio.
Hard Rock Sportsbook notes that the earlier an individual signs up, the bigger the bonus bet. Starting at the currently advertised $500 for anyone who registers by Aug. 1. The bonus decreases the closer it gets to the launch date.
Bettors are required to place $100 in qualifying bets within two weeks of launch to benefit from the promotion.
